Will Insurance Cover Roof Replacement?
A plain-language explanation of when homeowners insurance pays for roof replacement — and when it doesn't.
How Does the Insurance Process Work?
Homeowners insurance covers roof damage caused by sudden, accidental events — primarily storm damage (hail, wind, falling objects). When damage occurs, you file a claim, an adjuster visits your property, and the insurance company issues a settlement based on their assessment. Storm Ridge attends the adjuster visit with you to ensure nothing is missed.
Typically Covered
- Hail damage to shingles, metal components, and gutters
- Wind damage — lifted, cracked, or missing shingles
- Falling tree or debris impact
- Lightning strike damage
- Fire damage
- Sudden and accidental water intrusion from storm events
Typically Not Covered
- Normal wear and aging — shingles that are simply old
- Manufacturer defects (covered separately under material warranty)
- Pre-existing damage at time of policy purchase
- Improper installation by a previous contractor
- Damage from lack of maintenance
- Mold, rot, or infestation not caused by a sudden covered event
